Click it or Ticket Campaign

May 2015

In an effort to SAVE LIVES on Vermont’s roadways, the Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department is working in partnership with the State of Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program and other local law enforcement agencies to increase seat belt usage during the May 2015 Click It or Ticket Campaign.

The goal of a focused seat belt enforcement campaign is to step up traffic enforcement efforts utilizing high visibility cooperative traffic enforcement to reduce crashes and enforce our Occupant Protection laws.

Although Vermont has a secondary seat belt law, the enforcement campaign is centers on “zero-tolerance” approach towards seat belt and child safety seat usage.  Vermont does have a primary seat belt law for all persons up to age 18.  Click it or Ticket….Day or Night!!

Despite widespread efforts to educate drivers about the importance of wearing seat belts, motor vehicle collisions continue to cause death and serious injuries to the citizens of our state.  Vermont as a whole cannot get beyond the 85% passenger restraint compliance rate.

Grand Isle County has had one fatality since 2012 despite the significant increase in the number of crashes investigated by the Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department.  We attribute this success to our high passenger restraint compliance rate for vehicles our Department came into contact with.

TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY WE CAN IMPROVE THE AVERAGE SEAT BELT COMPLIANCE RATE.  ONE BUCKLE AT A TIME.

The Click It or Ticket Enforcement Campaign will run from May 18, 2015 to May 31, 2015.
